The 2012 spring’s earthquake strongly signed the local community, so the project started with an investigation about citizen and perception of the place as it was. From the collection of memories came the strategy for outside spaces: a small courtyard was created between the existing and the new buildings, as core of the paths and relations between functions. The new building is compact to leave the outside space for free activities. The used natural materials were a wooden structure and straw bale prefab walls. Environmental strategies to cut the energy usage are: solar greenhouses outside the workshops, a green roof that together with the walls strongly cut the energy losses in wintertime, natural ventilation for summertime, PV panels to harvest energy.
